Create A Better Tomorrow Today
WELCOME TO OUR MGM SUSTAINABILITY NEWSLETTER
We’re doing a lot behind the scenes at MGM to reduce our impact on the environment and support the people that mean the most to us, including all our employees and community. Contributing to a better Macau through our arts and culture program is also an important aspect of our approach. Culinary Mentoring Program at Astor Shore: Over the course of 10 weeks, a team of MGM chefs have been giving their time to mentor a group of young mentees from Astor Shore, an organization dedicated to supporting adolescent girls in the Macau community, to help them gain skills, and build confidence and self-esteem. Chef Wilson, MGM’s Executive Sous Chef, has been supporting our complimentary and meaningful Culinary Mentoring Program since 2013. Sharing his passion for food and the community, Chef Wilson hopes to connect with young people and inspire them to reach for their dreams. “It’s a fun and energetic environment. I’m proud to see how they have grown in confidence throughout the program, whilst building strong friendships with each other,” said Chef Wilson.

Food Safety Seminar: We hosted the “MGM SME Food Safety Seminar” on June 7, 2016 in collaboration with the Macao Chamber of Commerce, supported by the Macao Economic Services, Macau Civic and Municipal Affairs Bureau, Macau Productivity and Technology Transfer Center, and Macau Trade and Investment Promotion Institute. Attended by more than 300 participants, the event marks the very first food safety seminar jointly organized by the private and public sectors of Macau.

The objective of this Seminar is to give local SME suppliers in the food and beverage industry a platform to learn about the Food Safety Law and international standards in the purchasing process raised by both the government and the local integrated resort operators in order to enhance their competitiveness. Food and beverage is an integral part of the overall traveling experience that helps make Macau a world tourism and leisure center; the seminar helps local SMEs better understand and follow international food safety standards, which will enhance Macau’s attractiveness as a tourism destination on an international level.

Energy Saving Week: This year’s Energy Saving Week lasts between June 12 and 18. Once again we have joined the Macau Office for the Development of the Energy Sector to help raise awareness of the importance of saving energy so that we can help protect the environment and create a better Macau by reducing pollution from energy consumption and improving our air quality. To raise awareness we organized a “lights off” event on June 13 and our team joined together for Casual Wear Day on June 14 to promote wearing cooler clothing and keeping our air-cons at acceptable levels during summer.

However, it’s important to remember that energy saving week, should be every week. We only have one home, planet earth, let’s do all we can to protect it!
