Art & Culture The Premiere of “Macau 2049” MGM has joined hands with the internationally acclaimed Chinese filmmaker Zhang Yimou to unveil a groundbreaking residency show - Macau 2049 at the MGM Theater in December. This show includes eight chapters, bringing brand-new interpretations of Chinese intangible cultural heritage––Hua’er, Khoomei, Song and Dance of The Miao People, Peking Opera, Yangge, Yi Song, Lion Dance and Storytelling in North Shaanxi. Besides, MGM presents the mechanical flipping matrix kinetic art installation “The Dancing Lion: Rise of Good Fortune” at the Lion Lobby in MGM COTAI. The prototype of the installation comes from the chapter “Lion Dance · Radiance” of Macau 2049. POLY MGM MUSEUM Celebrates Its Grand Opening The POLY MGM MUSEUM, a visionary collaboration between Poly Culture and MGM, held its grand opening ceremony in November. The POLY MGM MUSEUM was constructed in accordance with Chinese national standards for the exhibition of Grade-One cultural relics, with highly precise environmental regulation technology on par with global standards for institutions of such capacity. In collaboration with nearly 20 national museums and international arts and cultural organizations, the inaugural exhibition of POLY MGM MUSEUM is themed around the Maritime Silk Road, featuring an impressive collection of 228 artifacts and artworks in 184 sets. Highlights include nearly 30 grade-one cultural relics, such as the four Bronze Zodiac Heads of the Old Summer Palace. Zhang Yimou’s Studio: Mastermind Behind “Macau 2049” MGM has invited Zhang Yimou, Chief Director of Macau 2049, to host an exhibition titled “Zhang Yimou's Studio: Mastermind Behind Macau 2049” at Navy Yard No. 2 in Barra District. As the prologue of the residency show, the exhibition offers visitors a closer look at the creative vision behind Macau 2049, featuring excerpts from the performance, re-creation of Zhang Yimou's studio settings, stage design sketches, and behind-the-scenes highlights. MGM and Prince Kung’s Palace Museum Introduce a New Cultural MICE Model in Macau MGM and Prince Kung’s Palace Museum of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism of the People’s Republic of China aspire to pass down Chinese intangible craftsmanship to Macau’s creative industry through the project “Eastern Elegance: Timeless Tale” Intangible Cultural Heritage Fashion Series. This event, encompassing symposium, workshops, and fashion shows, is an all-inclusive industry-driven exhibition – designed not only to show local fashion practitioners the ropes on how to turn the time-honored handicraft into novel opportunities that foster the modern development of Chinese intangible cultural heritage, but also open a widened path for the “Tourism + MICE” integration. It attracted around 200 participants from cultural institutions, industry professionals, and students from Mainland China, Macau, and Hong Kong. MGM Debuts the Solo Exhibition of Cai Guo-Qiang’s AI Model cAI™ MGM joined hands with the renowned contemporary artist Cai Guo-Qiang to unveil the solo exhibition of Cai’s AI Model “cAI™” - cAI™: Soul Scan at Barra district’s Navy Yard No.1 earlier. The exhibition presents approximately 20 new works created by cAI™ specifically for Macau, following its deep learning of Macau's rich history and culture under the guidance of Cai Guo-Qiang. Besides, the exhibition begins with a self-introduction generated by cAI™, followed by the debut “painting exhibition” of the “gunpowder artist cAI™”. Visitors are invited to co-create digital fireworks with the “fireworks master cAI™” through an interactive installation. Finally, the cAI™ Divination Room, featuring a special interactive installation powered by the “diviner cAI™” and its robotic arms, offers an engaging experience filled with exploration and fun. MGM and Fortune Present the Annual Brainstorm Design Conference MGM and Fortune joined hands once again in Macau to hold the Fortune Brainstorm Design conference, an international forum focusing on the fields of design and business, which attracted over 300 top global designers and guests such as executives of Fortune 500 companies to discuss cooperation and co-creation cantered on a wide range of design-related topics. In addition to the annual forum, a series of off-site tour programs were organized in the Barra District, which also allowed the participants to experience Barra’s unique charm and significance. “Art-Zoo Splashes of Joy” World of Wonders MGM joined forces with the renowned Singaporen artist Jackson Tan, bringing his giant inflatable installations “Art-Zoo Splashes of Joy” World of Wonders to Barra District, with the theme of marine environmental protection. MGM also organized environmental-friendly workshops and added retail elements as the extension of “Art-Zoo”, in order to increase public awareness on the subject. All happenings are aimed to not only offer more parent-child recreational experience to meet their diversified needs, but also showcase international recognition of Barra’s revitalization efforts. Global Premiere of “Promise of Decades” Directed by Macau filmmaker Tracy Choi, and co-production by MGM, the film Promise of Decades held its global premiere at the Dom Pedro V Theater, celebrating the 25th anniversary of Macao’s return to the motherland while showcasing local creativity and potential to both mainland and international audiences. Sports The 11th International Lion Dance Championship 2024 – MGM Cup With 21 lion dance troupes from 13 countries and regions participating this year, “The 11th International Lion Dance Championship 2024 – MGM Cup” was successfully concluded in October, presenting a highly-entertaining world-class sports event at the Barra Square in front of the world heritage site A-Ma Temple. This year, MGM live-streamed the event globally on streaming platforms and has attracted nearly 3 million viewers both online and offline. hush! Beach Concerts x Yo~ga Wellfest 2024 Jointly organized by MGM and the Cultural Affairs Bureau of Macao SAR (ICM), the “hush! Beach Concerts x Yo~ga Wellfest 2024” was held successfully in November, with the participation of nearly 26,000 locals and international visitors. To support the development of “tourism + sports and health” industries in Macau, MGM leveraged its international network to invite more than 30 renowned fitness and yoga instructors from Asia to Macau, delivering a range of professional workouts and yoga courses onsite. On the other hand, the “hush! Beach Concerts” has brought together nearly 60 local and foreign bands, musicians and artists to perform, which jointly orchestrated a “marathon” event featuring music and yoga along the coast. 2024 MGM Macau Tennis Masters 2024 MGM Macau Tennis Masters has come to an end in December. In addition to presenting a wonderful game, the tennis stars also interacted with young tennis players meanwhile participating in community activities at the Barra District, and more, in which they enjoyed the unique charm of Macau. Community MGM and Fuhong organize event themed on mental health MGM and Fuhong Society of Macau have jointly organized the sixth annual World Mental Health Day series of activities, inviting the individuals in mental health recovery and community members to work together and create two large-scale artworks by using five different crafts, including zentangle, stamp painting, sticker painting, cloisonné, and diamond painting, which also combined with elements of Macau's scenic spots and the exterior design of the MGM buildings. The event was participated by nearly 300 participants from 23 schools, social organizations, enterprises, and members of the Golden Lion Volunteer Team. MGM Sponsors Greater Bay Area History Knowledge Competition MGM proudly sponsored “The First MGM Cup: Greater Bay Area Secondary School History Knowledge Competition”, which was organized by the Macao Association for Historical Education, with the participation of nearly a hundred finalist students from 32 schools in the Greater Bay Area. Additionally, MGM organized a historical and cultural tour for the participating students. They visited several world heritage sites in Macau and the Macao Museum. The highlight of this tour was the visit to the Poly MGM Museum, where the students enjoyed an exhibition on the historical development of the Maritime Silk Road. The group also explored Barra District, which was once a center of the shipbuilding industry, to learn more about its historical significance. MGM supports charitable activities MGM presented another year of undivided support to Macau Tung Sing Tong Charitable Society’s annual fundraising campaign with a donation of MOP 700,000. For 17 consecutive years, MGM has accumulated a total of MOP 8.6 million donation. Besides, MGM donated MOP700,000 to Charity Fund from the Readers of Macao Daily News to support Walk for a Million. We were glad to have over 1,000 team members and families to support this charitable cause on-site and showcase our Golden Lion spirit. MGM Organizes “Double Celebration of Love and Community Care” to Promote Inclusive Society With the aim to foster connections between people from different backgrounds and cultivate a harmonious and happy community, MGM organized the event “Double Celebration of Love and Community Care”. The event featured a series of activities to promote an inclusive society, including wedding photos taken for 25 elderly couples with an average age of 75, scarves hand-knitted by volunteers for people in need, and free haircuts provided to senior citizens by youths and MGM Volunteer Team members. The MGM Golden Lion Volunteer Team, along with senior citizens, youths, and people with disabilities also presented music and dance performances during the event. MGM holds a Poon Choi Banquet MGM has specially invited more than 400 guests, namely Barra’s cooperative partners, as well as guests from different local associations and organizations to enjoy a Poon Choi Banquet at Barra District, appreciating their great support for this district. Barra Kitchen’s eight local F&B outlets also helped prepare “Eight Appetizers Platter” with their signature dishes for this banquet, wishing a healthy and prosperous new year ahead to all. “Responsible Gaming Campus Ambassador” Program In order to promote proper financial management and values among college students, MGM joined forces with the City University of Macau to organize the “Responsible Gaming Campus Ambassador” Program from September to November. Youth Hospitality Activities – Macao Tourism Courtesy Short Video Contest MGM collaborated with MGTO to launch the “Together We Deliver Exceptional Hospitality as Tourism Ambassadors” Training Series. One of the key highlights of this series is the “Youth Hospitality Activities - Macao Tourism Courtesy Short Video Contest”, which has collected more than 170 videos. Team Members “Safety in place, health to embrace!” Work Safety Campaign MGM joined forces with the Labour Affairs Bureau of Macao SAR(DSAL) to launch the “Safety in place, health to embrace!” Work Safety Campaign, featuring roadshow games, physical fitness tests, knowledge competitions, lectures, and other activities. It has attracted nearly 7,000 team members to join while raising their awareness of occupational safety and health.
