Let’s Fight Food Waste Week: Reducing food waste is MGM’s sustainability priority and the Company takes actions through well-developed meal planning technique, building strong mindsets among teammates and making plans on food waste recovery. For making sure that all of our colleagues are on the same boat, MGM held the “Let’s Fight Food Waste Campaign” during 2-6 July, taking all reasonable courses of action to raise awareness around food waste reduction. We are glad to see all the positive feedbacks and supports during the campaign!

Employee farming experience: On July 3, MGM arranged a farming demonstration, allowing employees to get their hands dirty in a farming environment to dig up vegetables and pick fruit from the trees while also learning about what it takes to grow our food from landscaping professionals. Participating team members were also encouraged to bring their children to take part in the activity and together develop an appreciation of where food comes from and the resources used in creating it.

‘Show off your clean Plate!’ activity was held at employee dining rooms at both properties on July 4-6 to encourage everyone to take the appropriate amounts of food and finish it. Prizes were given to people that showed us clean plates during the 3-day event. The activity helped to promote good behaviors and increase mindfulness among our employees to only take what they can eat and not unnecessarily create food waste.

During the hours of the Campaign we managed to reduce our waste by 817 kg and achieved more than 2,900 clean plates. If we continue in that way, in one year, that will amount to 110 tons, or the weight of 28 elephants! Thank you to everyone who participated!

In-depth plate waste audit: From June 20-July 6, the Sustainability and Stewarding teams joined together to conduct a plate waste audit in the employee dining rooms at both Cotai and Macau properties. Food waste from plate was collected in hourly increments to understand the plate waste pattern and identify any opportunities to cut waste in our employee dining rooms.
