WELCOME TO OUR MGM SUSTAINABILITY NEWSLETTER
We’re doing a lot behind the scenes at MGM to reduce our impact on the environment and support the people that mean the most to us, including all our employees and community. Contributing to a better Macau through our arts and culture program is also an important aspect of our approach. Through this newsletter we will share our monthly sustainability highlights with you, and hope you will join us in our sustainability programs to help us Create a Better Tomorrow Today.
Sharing care and kindness during Chinese New Year: In spirit of the Chinese tradition to spring clean the home before CNY as a symbol of good luck and fortune, MGM teamed up with Centro de Dia “Brilho da Vida” to help in the festive activity. On February 9, MGM’s 180 Volunteer Team members rolled up their sleeves to help over 220 households at the Fai Chi Kei housing unit for senior citizens to get their homes ready for the New Year. At the end of each spring clean, the traditional Fai Chun red banners were placed on doorways and windows and specially-designed New Year goodie bags were given to wish households a healthy and prosperous Year of the Dog. A further 1,200 gift sets were distributed to 13 local community associations.
From January 31 to February 6, 11 of MGM’s volunteers who took part in a two-month professional hair dressing training course, provided complimentary haircuts to a total of 80 senior citizens at two local elderly centers, Centro de Dia Brilho da Vida and Complexo de Apoio à Família e de Serviço Co-munitário de Seac Pai Van da UGAMM.
A meaningful gift for Chinese New Year (CNY) and Valentine’s Day: On February 12-14, MGM hosted a staff sale in support of the community organization, Fuhong Society, offering plantspotted plants and flower bouquets crafted by special needs members of Fuhong – ensuring a gift from the heart not only to our loved ones, but also to the community. From February 16-18, we also treated our guests to a gift that gives back to the community. All in-room guests were surprised with CNY fortune pockets, consisting of brightly-colored, hand-stitched bags containing festive cookies and mini cupcakes, all of which were prepared by persons with learning disabilities in association with Fuhong Society of Macau and Sem Meng Chi Restaurant.
Furniture donation to those in need: Our furniture donation program continues this month with 52 banquet chairs from Rossio restaurant were donated to Fuhong Society and with the conclusion of the Learn & Play! teamLab Future Park on February 28, 50 more chairs were donated to Caritas Macau by MGM Art Space.
Sharing Green Suggestions: A dedicated Sustainability Wall has been created in back-of-house areas of both MGM MACAU and MGM COTAI properties to remind employees about the simple actions we can take to live a green life style such as using reusable shopping bags and taking shorter showers. It also helps to keep everyone updated on green news and new green events coming up.
Hotel room recycling: From February 28, a special recycling insert has been added to MGM MACAU to allow our guests to join MGM’s recycling program (which is already underway during normal guest room cleaning). This now ensures that MGM MACAU and COTAI are set up with guest recycling facilities.
MGM Go Green Campaign is coming back!: It is that time of the year again for us to embrace the environment and have a blast with a series of fun activities! This March 20 - April 6, MGM’s Go Green Campaign will include a series of activities including: green building tours around MGM COTAI to see its green aspects and go behind the scenes, a Go Green roadshow, a celebration of Earth Hour and much more!
Eco gift for team members: To celebrate the opening of MGM COTAI, MGM has given all team members a specially-designed MGM umbrella, with material made from plastic water bottles! Certified by the Global Recycle Standard, this eco gift helps to focus on the importance of recycling and the value that waste products can provide in creating new products.
MGM goes electric!: MGM has confirmed that this coming Summer MGM’s fleet of shuttle buses will now include a range of electric ones to support the low carbon development of Macau and improve air quality.
