Create A Better Tomorrow Today
WELCOME TO OUR MGM SUSTAINABILITY NEWSLETTER
We’re doing a lot behind the scenes at MGM to reduce our impact on the environment and support the people that mean the most to us, including all our employees and community. Contributing to a better Macau through our arts and culture program is also an important aspect of our approach. Through this newsletter we will share our monthly sustainability highlights with you, and hope you will join us in our sustainability programs to help us Create a Better Tomorrow Today.

The MGM Macau Eco TrailHiker is the most popular and the largest group-hiking event in Macau and aims to promote teamwork, environmental awareness, and comradery – all set amongst Macau’s natural beauty. Each year, more than 2,000 participants and 200 volunteers take part in this event, with all proceeds going to local beneficiaries.

The Forum included presentations from all 6 integrated resorts in Macau, as well as from the Macao Federation of Trade Unions and the Macao Polytechnic Institute. MGM’s Vice President of Human Resources, Ms. Michelle Chiu, presented on MGM’s unwavering commitment to shape a better Macau through the organization of community events to support those in need. With achievements including a total of 31,000 community service hours across 450 events since 2010, our efforts not only support worthwhile local causes but also create friendships, fond memories and connections between our team members and the community. Over 10% of our whole team form part of the Golden Lion Volunteer Team, all of whom also gain great personal benefits through volunteerism and community interaction.

Recycling is on a roll at MGM: MGM is delighted to report we are now recycling playing cards, reducing waste sent to the incinerator by approximately 20%! This is yet another product to add to MGM’s growing list of recycled items including: paper & cardboard, plastic, metals, soap, cooking oil and electronic equipment. Instead of being sent to incineration and landfill, these items are turned once again into useful products, helping to preserve the environment and earth’s precious natural resources.

This February, MGM’s Tria Spa went an extra step to expand its recycling program from paper to include all plastic bottles and amenity containers.

Square 8 furniture donation: With the remodeling of Square Eight (now North and South by Square Eight), we ensured all unwanted furniture was donated to those in need. 225 pieces of chairs, tables and sideboards, were donated to Fuhong Society in Macau, with the remaining going to Cross Roads and other needy organizations locally and in Asia. Special thanks for our transport provider, Turn Key Hospitality Services (TKHS) Group, for supporting the transport to these worthwhile organizations!

Table Games family day out: Family time is priceless. On February 25, the whole family was invited to join in on the fun when our Table Games team members had a recent team outing to the Museum of Macau. Together with their families they learned about our city's rich culture and history, which culminated in a lunch together to refuel after the morning’s tour.

Keeping fit and healthy this February: Physical activity is something we also need to include as part of our daily routine. This February our onsite gym instructor created a tailor-made and easy-to-do exercise routine, as something we can all do at home to ensure we stay fit and strong. We also promoted a weekly “steps challenge” in conjunction with our insurance provider, promoting active living by walking more, which in turn earns you points and a free coffee as a reward.

New distinctive art restaurant display: MGM’s North and South by Square Eight not only tantalizes taste buds with delicacies from Northern and Southern China, but also boasts a collection of specially-commissioned art by two renowned local Macanese artists. Wonderfully eye-catching and intriguing, the 24 works of art by Victor Marreiros enrapture you with their craftsmanship and story-telling; and together with the skillful calligraphy prepared by Mr. Mok Wa-Kei, diners enjoy this unique cultural backdrop which blends historical and modern Chinese culture.
